The “America is Pretty Cool” Car Countdown, #3 (tied) The A-Team’s Vandura

#3. 1983 GMC Vandura, The A-Team (series) starring Mr. T.

In 1972 a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn’t commit.  These men promptly escaped in order to ride around in the most bada** van in the history of America.  Oh just press play already . . .

The “America is Pretty Cool” Car Countdown, #5, The General Lee

#5.) 1969 Dodge Charger, Dukes of Hazzard (series)

Unbeknownst to most, the show was going to be called “Daisy Loves Cooter,” until writers disagreed on that unlikelihood and instead introduced this rebel bada**.  Plus, who knew Cooter Davenport would go on to Congress?  All thanks to the General.

The “America is Pretty Cool” Car Countdown, #7 Oh my Knight Rider!

#7. 1982 Pontiac Trans-Am, Knight Rider starring “The Hoff”

Someone once told me that Devon’s Mercedes got overshadowed.  Huh?   This is the Knight Industries Two Thousand (K.I.T.T.)!  It fights crimes, soars through the air, makes a wisecrack or two and made “The Hoff” the coolest (almost) mo-fo on the small screen.  Mercedes you say?  Pfft . . . plus, you find me the Benz that gets to this in retirement . . . FIND ME!

The “America is Pretty Cool” Car Countdown, #8 Why hello, Eleanor . . .

#8  1967 ‘Eleanor‘ Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 – Gone in 60 Seconds starring Nicolas Cage

The only thing wrong with this picture may be the former award-winning actor in the foreground.  That is, unless seeing Ghost Rider was a cinematic experience for you.  But add Cage in his prime with a suspiciously blonde Angelina Jolie and a “Go Baby Go” nitrous-oxide button on the shift knob and I’m pretty sure you’ll be gone in  . . . sorry, couldn’t help it.

While there’s debate as to whether the one featured in the movie was a ’67 or ’68, you can pick up a replica one by clicking here on Ebay.

. . .

The “America is Pretty Cool” Car Countdown, #9 Morpheus Prefers Cadillac

#9,  2003 Cadillac Escalade and CTS

It only took the most expensive car chase scene in cinematic history to reinvigorate an American classic, but Cadillac’s new styling took ahold of a brand new generation in the Matrix Reloaded.  Morpheus stands by his choice (sword in hand).  Never-mind the bullet-holes . . . but you might want to check the CarFax.

The “America is Pretty Cool” Car Countdown, #10 Robert Redford’s Spy-mobile

10. 1969 Porsche 912, Spy Game, starring Robert Redford

Find me a cooler scene that when this grizzled, scotch drinking CIA case officer drives away from Langley on the GW parkway after pulling off a pretty bada** last day of work as a career spy.  Find me!

So, you’re asking, this was #10?  Damn, right.  Hold tight . . we’ve got ’till July 4th to roll out the rest of the top 10!
